Ælle (also Aelle or Ella) is recorded in early sources as the first king of the South Saxons, reigning in what is now called Sussex, England, from 477 to perhaps as late as 514.[1]
Biography
In 417,[2] Aelle landed and crushed the Britons who claimed the Kingdom of Haestingas, the Meonwarar and the Regenes. They all fell or were wed and bred into this Kingdom of the South Saxons. Aelle was caimed to be the first Bretwalda of the Saxons.[3]
