Zhang was the Grand Protector responsible for Boling Commandery, China at the time of the outbreak of the An Lushan Rebellion.
Biography
Zhang was one of the grand protectors visited by Yan Jiming during the latter's attempt to call-to-arms across all twenty-four commanderies of Hebei Circuit against An Lushan, not knowing that Zhang had already allied with the general. Days later, he sent his guards to kill Yan Jiming and bring back his head so he could gift it to An Lushan.[1]
