William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, also known as William Pitt the Elder (1708 – 1778), was an English Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Blackfriars Bridge was originally meant to be named Pitt Bridge when it completed construction in 1769, honoring Pitt after his tenure as Prime Minister, but the name never caught on.[1]
