Whistling in dense vegetation could attract enemies to stealthily take down

Whistling refers to the act of producing a high-pitched sound by forcing breath through a small hole between partly closed lips, or between one's teeth. There are many possible whistle variations and, throughout human history, individuals have used whistling for various purposes.

During the many centuries of their existence, the Assassins and Templars have commonly used whistling to attract unsuspecting enemies to their position in order to stealthily kill them. The mercenary Kassandra,[1] the Alamut Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq,[2] the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir,[3] the Assassins Fujibayashi Naoe,[4] Edward Kenway,[5] Adéwalé,[6] Aveline de Grandpré,[7] and Ratonhnhaké:ton, and the Templars Haytham Kenway[8] and Shay Cormac[9] could whistle from haystacks, bushes, and other hiding spots, as well as from around corners. During the Victorian era, Jacob and Evie Frye could whistle from anywhere using a whistle tool.[10]

Aside from its use in luring enemies, whistling could at times be used to summon horses to ride. During the Renaissance, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze also whistled to call his apprentices to assassinate targets for him.[11]
