"Saloninus is useless! His father, Gallienus, is a coward! And his grandfather, Valerian, is a shadow of his former self!"
Caïus Fulvus Vultur's opinion of the Licinii Emperors[src]

Valerian (Latin: Publius Licinius Valerianus Augustus; 193/195/200 – 260/264), also known as Valerian the Elder, was Roman Emperor from 22 October 253 to spring 260.

By 259, Valerian shared power with his son, Gallienus, and grandson, Saloninus, and the three ruled over the Roman Empire. Senator Caïus Fulvus Vultur had a low opinion of the Emperors and specifically remarked that he considered Valerian to have been a shadow of his former self.
