In 1176, the forces of [[Saladin]] laid siege to [[Masyaf]]. Umar was tasked with infiltrating Saladin's tent and leaving a message there, after the tent's location was revealed by the spy [[Ahmad Sofian]]. Umar successfully managed to infiltrate the tent and leave the message, but was discovered by Saladin and the Assassin had to flee, killing a Saracen nobleman in the process. When the Saracens came to make peace, they demanded that Umar's life be taken; if not, the Saracens would execute Ahmad and continue the siege. After a lot of urging, [[Al Mualim]] had no choice but to have Umar take Ahmad's place. Moments before he was executed, Umar could hear the voice of his son yelling for him from the citadel.
