Papal Arquebusier in Rome, 1503.

The Arquebusier were firearm soldiers who served and protected the pontiff during their tenure.

In 1499, armoured arquebusier under the command of Cesare Borgia, son of Pope Alexander VI, participated in the assault on Monteriggioni; one arquebusier managed to wound Ezio Auditore da Firenze during the latter stages of the assault.[1]. In 1503, the arquebusier continued to serve under Cesare, keeping watch over a Papal parade in Rome. At least one arquebusier spotted an approaching Ezio Auditore, but was killed by another assassin before firing his shot[2].
