Straight Falchion

The Straight Falchion was a falchion of typical design sold in Paris during the French Revolution.

Description

As a falchion, the Straight Falchion was a single-edged European sword optimized for slashing power by its curved edge. True to its name, it possessed a straight black though it clipped as it approached the tip. With a broad blade and a relatively simple crossguard—albeit supplemented by metal rings—it appeared to be a fairly conventional falchion and performed as such. Almost all piercing power was sacrificed for its specialty in cutting and hacking. While otherwise plain, its pommel was fashioned in the shape of an open beak.[1]

History

During the French Revolution, the Straight Falchion was a sword commonly sold in Paris.[1]
