imported>Sol Pacificus m in English, a sentence is defined by having a subject + verb, an independent clause is defined as a part of a sentence which could actually stand as its own sentence if split off. 2 independent clauses can make a compound sentence using a comma & a coordinating conjunction. "Could be purchased" lacks a subject, so it is not an independent clause. This is in fact a long simple sentence of the same structure as "The cat ate the mouse and ran away". There should not be a comma here. |
