The Spear of the Waiting Dead was a spear belonging to Charon, the ferryman of the dead in Aletheia's simulation of the Greek Underworld.
Charon gave the spear to the Spartan misthios Kassandra as a reward, after she had helped him uncover the identity of a thief who had stolen coins needed for a soul to cross the Styx.[1]

Behind the scenes
The Spear of the Waiting Dead, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's DLC The Fate of Atlantis: Torment of Hades, shares the same model as the Heavy Spear, a weapon in the same game. The model used is the recycled model of The Trial, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Origins.
