History

Built by the Spanish army some decades prior, by the time of the Granada War during the Reconquista, the fortress had been abandoned and was in disrepair. In early 1489, Aguilar de Nerha claimed the fortress and built it up as the new base for the Spanish Brotherhood.[1]

The fortress had three wings and held many rooms; among them were training rooms, a blacksmith, intel room, treasury, and a ceremony room. The fortress also had living quarters, an apothecary, library, and a supply room that backed onto the docks.[2]
