Aretos the Aid (died c. 420s BCE) was a mercenary who operated in Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
When Aretos was surrounded by carnage and war, all he wanted to do was heal people. He believed that in a world covered with blood, people always needed help. After Aretos devoted his life to medical service, he was betrayed by one of his patients, who tried to poison him. If that was his patient's way of showing gratitude, Aretos swore never to aid others again.
During the war, he crossed paths with the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who accepted his bounty.
