Septimius Severus (Latin: Lucius Septimius Severus Eusebes Pertinax Augustus; 11 April 145 – 4 February 211), also known as Severus, was Roman Emperor from 193 to his death. He was the founder of the Severan dynasty.

Following his Parthian victories, a triumphal arch was built in commemoration of the events. After he died, Septimius was succeeded by his sons Caracalla and Geta, who shortly shared rule as joint emperors before Caracalla had Geta killed.
