Septimius Severus (Latin: Lucius Septimius Severus Eusebes Pertinax Augustus; 11 April 145 – 4 February 211), also known as Severus, was Roman Emperor from 193 to his death. He was the founder of the Severan dynasty.

Following his Parthian victories, a triumphal arch was built in commemoration of the events. After he died, Septimius was succeeded by his sons Caracalla and Geta, who shared rule as joint emperors.
