Map of the Santa Maria Novella District

The Santa Maria Novella District was one of four districts of Florence.

History

This district takes its name from the Church of Santa Maria Novella, the first great basilica in Florence. The church of San Lorenzo, built in 393, is on the north side of the district, while Santa Maria Novella is adjacent to the Mercato Vecchio in the district's center.[1]
