"Athens sent its mighty trireme Salaminia to deal a massive blow to the Spartan fleet. Stop it before Athens monopolizes the Aegean for good."
―Description of the ship on the message board[src]
The Salaminia

Salaminia was an Athenian heavy trireme which sailed the Aegean Sea during the 5th century BCE.

History

Named after the Isle of Salamis and its main settlement, Salaminia was a mighty ship that Athens sent when Spartan ships needed sinking.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, Salaminia was sought out and destroyed, along with its companions, by the Adrestia commanded by the Spartan misthios Kassandra. In the aftermath, Kassandra claimed the finery of Salaminia for her own.[1]

Behind the scenes

Historically, Salaminia was used as a messenger ship. In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey it was described as a vessel of destruction, "its sheer force (bisecting) any target before the opposing crew had time to react". The sails and shields aboard Salaminia bear the likeness of the goddess Athena's head.
