The Royal Mews is a mews of the British royal family, located in the Buckingham Palace in London, United Kingdom.

History

In the 1760s, King George III moved his mews to the present location following his relocation of his residence to the Buckingham House. During the reign of George IV, he commissioned the architect John Nash to rebuild the stables with grandeur during the renovation of the house into a palace.[1]

Further improvements were made to the Mews when Queen Victoria moved into Buckingham; Prince Albert had a new forge installed and additional cow sheds built onto the Mews. Later in 1855, Queen Victoria established the Buckingham Palace Royal Mews School using her own money. It served to educate the children of the stable's servants. By 1859, the Mews had nearly 200 employees, and accommodations were built for them and their families.[1]
