The Royal Cutlass was a prestigious cutlass with a leaf-shaped, golden guard intended for the use by royalty. Nevertheless, it was sold in public in Paris during the French Revolution.
Description
An exquisite cutlass, the Royal Cutlass's distinguishing feature was its golden handguard. Designed to the motif of a leaf, this guard appeared to blanket over the rather short grip, shrouding it entirely. The single-edged, curved blade that protruded from the guard was relatively longer and thinner than a typical cutlass, making it more akin to a full-fledged saber. Three lines of fullers ran down this blade, one of which stopped midway through. Overall, it was forged with the mind that it would be fitting for the royalty, given that it was both opulent and one of the most powerful swords of its day.[1]
History
During the French Revolution, the Royal Cutlass was sold in Paris for an expensive price.[1]
