Rouecistre Fortress

Rouecistre Fortress was a fortress in 9th century northern Cent, England, that was under the control of Thegn Tedmund.

History

In 873, after the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan broke the naval chain at the Rouecistre Blockade, Eivor and her allies, Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq and Thegn Geadric of Oxenefordscire, met to plan on the assault of the fortress. Alongside her allies, Eivor started the assault in search of Tedmund to abduct for their plan with Abbot Cynebert. After breaking through gates and forcibly bringing down the drawbridge, Eivor went and searched for Tedmund. Climbing to the roof of the central structure, Eivor caught sight of the thegn. Tedmund and Eivor fought each other, which led to Eivor besting him in combat.[1]

After the assault, Basim and Eivor tied Tedmund up and brought him outside the entrance of the fortress. Waiting for them, Abbot Cynebert came just in time and argued for the life of Tedmund. Within the shadow play, Tedmund grew suspicious of Cynebert's timely arrival. However, Tedmund started to have trouble breathing and within a matter of coughs, he fell over. Eivor checked his pulse and declared Tedmund dead. Basim theorized that he committed suicide from poison while Eivor made sure that Cynebert followed through on his promise. After Cynebert left to produce Fulke, Basim followed the abbot as Eivor later thanked Geadric for his aid on their assault.[1]

Behind the scenes

Historically, the castle at Rochester was not constructed until the late 11th century after the Norman conquest of England.
