Anwend was a Danish jarl and ally to Guthrum.
In the late 870s, Anwend and King Oscetel sailed in to Roman ruins on the River Exe from East Anglia with more than two hundred longships under their command. This fleet would assist Guthrum's army in providing two secure positions from which to attack Defenascire, Wiltshire, and Winchester.[1] However, a storm at sea sunk one hundred and twenty longships, drowning over three thousand warriors, including both kings, before they could arrive at the ruins.[2]
