Polynikes was a figure in Greek mythology, son of Oedipous and brother of Eteokles.

Following a dispute between the brothers over the rule of the city of Thebes led Polynikes ended up in Argos, the capital of Argolis. There he gathered forces, led by seven leaders, and they marched to retake Thebes for Polynikes.[1]
