The Pilgrim's Camp was located by the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Argolis, Greece.
While the sanctuary was a favoured by pilgrims from all over the Greek world, their numbers increased sharply following the plague of Athens. Desperate for healing, the sick and their loved ones flocked to the sanctuary in order to plead the god of healing, Asklepios, to cure them.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the Pilgrim's Camp while looking for her mother. In order to gain answers, she was tasked by a priest to retrieve a sacred oxen for sacrifice to help the victims of the plague.[2]
