Piero di Cosimo de' Medici (19 September 1416 – 2 December 1469), also known as Piero the Gouty (Italian: Piero il Gottoso), was the de facto ruler of Florence from 1464 to his death.
Piero rose to power with the death of his father, Cosimo, in 1464. However, Piero himself was inept and sickly. His son, Lorenzo, was raised by his mother, Lucrezia Tornabuoni, and introduced to prominent artists.[1]
In 1469, Piero died of gout and lung disease, and was buried in the Basilica of San Lorenzo.[1] In 2012, he was included in a mnemonic set in Abstergo Industries' Project Legacy.[2]
