A black pearl

Pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue of a mollusk. They are primarily used in accessories such as jewelry.

History

During the Italian Renaissance, Assassin Francesco Vecellio plundered a number of ships containing Templar Cesare Borgia's spoils. Among the items looted were a number of pearls.[1] The Italian Assassins would use them as ingredients in manufacturing laudanum.[2]

Among the many treasures collected by the pirate Alonzo Batilla were a perfectly round black pearl and a few teardrop pearls.[3]

The island of Santa Lucia was known for its small-scale fishing and pearl gathering before becoming a resupply hub for pirates.[4]

In 1868, a series of robberies investigated by Jacob and Evie Frye also featured the theft of a pearl necklace.[5]
