Panoptes the Forest Guardian was a place of worship atop a peak of Mount Koryphe in Argolis, Greece.
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place, finding that a group of the Daughters of Artemis had set up camp there. Kassandra slew their leader and claimed their valuables.[1]
Trivia
- The name of the place references the Giant Argus Panoptes, the most famous bearer of the epithet Panoptes, meaning 'all-seeing' in Greek. However, the epithet was also born by the gods Helios and Zeus.
