Animus data fragments were small shard-like objects spread throughout the city of Constantinople and Cappadocia during Desmond Miles' Animus sessions. When certain amounts of these were collected, narrow doors on Animus Island were unlocked, allowing Desmond to perform several first-person platform puzzles, while narrating his memories. These quests were known as "Desmond's Journey". There were 5 of these levels with each of them being unlocked with another 5 fragments.

Animus data fragments were fragments spread throughout the city of Constantinople and Cappadocia during Desmond Miles' Animus sessions. Collecting each one of them would open up a small memory for him, which he could play while in the Animus Island.[1]

Trivia

 • There is an Achievement for collecting all Animus data fragments, called "Capped" (20G; Bronze Trophy).
 • The Animus data fragments looks like the loading bar from Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
 • There are 100 Animus data fragments spread throughout Constantinople in total.
