Nero (Latin: Nerō Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus; 15 December 37 CE – 9 June 68 CE) was the fifth Roman Emperor, reigning from 54 until his death. He was the last Emperor in the Julio-Claudian dynasty.
During his reign, Nero built a lavish Golden Palace after the Great Fire of Rome in 64 CE. Nero also commissioned a 35 meter tall bronze statue of himself to be placed just outside the Palace's main entrance. Some people claimed that he intentionally started the fire to make room for his palace on Esquiline Hill. It was also likely that Nero used the aqueducts to build his palace because they did not give water to civilians anymore for a time.[1][2]
Nero committed suicide in 68 CE, ending the Julio-Claudian dynasty of emperors.
