Mob Justice is the final memory in the Bofire of the Vanities DLC pack for Assassin's Creed II.

Description

This memory shows the death of Savonarola. Ezio Auditore stands in the crowd and watches as the angry mob takes Savonarola to be burned at a stake. Ezio decides that no one deserves to die in such pain, and instead kills Savonarola with his hidden blade. He then proceeds to give a speech to the mob.

Dialogue

The End of the Monk

The crowd carries Savonarola to the stake, to be burned.

  • Savonarola: God bears witness to this sacrilege! That you would handle his prophet this way! Blasphemers! Heritics! You'll burn for this. DO YOU HEAR ME? You'll BURN!

Savonarola is tied to the stake and the fire is lit.

  • Savonarola: O Lord, show mercy... Deliver me from evil's embrace... Surrounded as I am by sin, I cry out to you for salvation.
  • Ezio: No one deserves to die in such pain.

Ezio makes his way towards Savonarola.

  • Savonarola: Infelix ego, omnium auxillio destitutus, qui coelum ferramque offendi: quo ibo? Quo me vertem? Ad quem confugiam? Ques mei miserebitur? Ad coelum levare oculos non audeo. Quia ei graviter peccavi. In terra refugium non invenio. Quia si scandalum...

Ezio jumps up towards the stake and stabs Savonoral in the head.

  • Girolamo Savonarola: It's you. I knew this day would come. Please, show mercy!
  • Ezio Auditore: I have. Va' ora - che sia il tuo Dio a giudicarti. Requiescat in pace. (Go now - that you may be judged by your God. Rest in peace.)

The Speech

Ezio walks away from Savonarola's lifeless body and stands on the stage

  • Ezio: People... Twenty-two years ago, I stood where I stand now - and watched my loved ones die, betrayed by those I had called friends. Vengeance clouded my mind. It would have consumed me, were it not for the wisdom of a few strangers, who taught me to look past my instincts. They never preached answers, but guided me to learn from myself. We don't need anyone to tell us what to do; not Savonarola, not the Medici. We are free to follow our own path. There are those who will take that freedom from us, and too many of you gladly give it. But it is our ability to choose - whatever you think is true - that makes us human... There is no book or teacher to give you the answers, to show you the way. Choose your own way! Do not follow me, or anyone else."

Outcome

Savonarola dies, and Florence is freed from his oppressive and controlling rule.

Trivia

  • Desynchronization becomes imminent if Ezio doesn't kill Savonarola within thirty seconds.
