Merlin (Welsh: Myrddin) was the druidic mentor of Arthur Pendragon during the 5th century CE.
Biography
Sometime after Arthur's death, Merlin took his sword Excalibur and hid it in an ancient cave, where it would remain until it was claimed by Raven Clan shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir during the 870s.[1]
Mythology
Some depictions of Arthurian legend held that Merlin was ruined by a fairy queen named Morgan Le Fay, a reincarnation of the goddess Morrigan.[2]
Legacy
By the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, there was an ale named after Merlin and Arthur, called Merlin & Arthur Imperial Stout. In 2015, Shaun Hastings tasted this beer via the Animus and then wrote a tasting note.[3]
