Melissani Cave was a cave situated northwest of the village of Sami on the island of Kephallonia.

According to Greek legends, Kephalos, a figure that the island was named after, hid his spear in the cave after accidentally killing his wife, Prokris.[1]

In 431 BCE, a priestess of the Temple of Zeus requested the Spartan misthios, Kassandra, to look for the spear. After deducing the cave to be the hiding spot, Kassandra retrieved the spear and gave it to the priests.[1]
