Mayan stelae were carved stone columns that could be found throughout the Caribbean and marked the locations of Mayan keystones. Climbing to the top of a stela and using Eagle Vision would reveal a geometric pattern that could be matched to the surrounding environment, showing where the keystone was buried.
The pirate and Assassin Mary Read revealed the nature of the stelae to Edward Kenway at Great Inagua in 1716. She claimed that finding all of them and collecting their associated keystones would allow him to unlock an ancient treasure at the Assassin stronghold in Tulum.
