Louise Borgia (1500 – 1553) was a French noblewoman. She was the only legitimate child of Cesare Borgia via his wife, Charlotte d'Albret. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander VI and Vannozza dei Cattanei, while her maternal grandparents were Alain d'Albret and Françoise of Châtillon-Limoges. She had a minimum of eleven half-siblings born out of her father's liaisons with various women.
Biography
Early life
Born from her father's selfish desire to keep France loyal to the Borgia, Louise was born on 17 May 1500.[1] Without ever having met her father from birth, Louise was raised by her mother Charlotte.[2]
In 1504, when she was four years old, Louise was present as the Assassins Ezio Auditore and Niccolò Machiavelli confronted her mother in her villa in the Pinciano district asking for the whereabouts of Cesare. Charlotte's eager to leave for France with Louise couldn't help the Assassins.[2]
Later life
Louise would go on to later to inherit her mother's title of Dame de Chalus in 1514 after her death. She married Louis II de la Trémoille in 1517, the marriage ended up being childless when he died in 1525. She married her second husband, Philippe de Bourbon, Seigneur de Bourbon-Busset on 3 February 1530 and together they had six children. Louise later died at the Château de Busset in 1553.[1]
