Louis the Younger (830/835 – 882), sometimes Louis III, was King of Saxony from 876 and Bavaria from 880 until his death in 882. He was the son of Louis the German who reigned as the first king of East Francia.

Biography

At some point during his reign, circa 866 or 867, Louis befriended King Ælla of Northumbria and gifted a bardiche to the Anglo-Saxon king. This bardiche later ended up in a storehouse in the Jorvik Theatre.[1]

Louis also possessed a Ring-sword which later ended in the possession of the Viking Toka Sinricsdottir in the late 9th century. Toka later gave the sword to jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan after competing with her in a foot race in Francia during the siege of Paris.[2]
