Nafpaktos (Greek: Ναύπακτος) is a port city in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece, situated on a bay on the north coast of the Gulf of Korinth.
During the Renaissance, Nafpaktos was one of the territories of the Republic of Venice and was known as Lepanto by the Venetian.[1]
In 1499, the Ottoman Empire defeated Venice during the Battle of Zonchio and sized Lepanto, Modone, and Corone.[2]
