Leon Battista Alberti (14 February 1404 - 20 April 1472) was an Italian author, artist, architect, poet, priest, linguist, philosopher, cryptographer and general Renaissance humanist polymath.

Frequently under the patronage of the Medici, Alberti provided the initial designs for the Palazzo Auditore, the palazzo of Lorenzo de' Medici's friend Giovanni Auditore, which was later completed by Giovanni himself.
