Amerigo Vespucci (March 9, 1454-February 22, 1512) was an Italian explorer, navigator, and cartographer. He is also known to be the cousin ofCristina Vespucci.
Amerigo became an explorer because of Cristina. She insisted Lorenzo de' Medici make Amerigo an explorer. Lorenzo took her advice and several years later, Amerigo was the first to map out the New World (America) which was named after him.
