The American Civil War was an armed conflict fought between rival factions of the United States of America, lasting from 1861 to 1865. The war began when the Southern states, known as the Confederacy, seceded from the rest of the country in 1861 following the election of Abraham Lincoln to the office of the Presidency. The war ended with the Northern States, known as the Union, emerging victorious.
Several causes, such as the issues of slavery and state's rights, led to the conflict, but in truth, the war was secretly set up by the Templar Order in an attempt to gain control of key positions in Congress, and eventually culminated with the assassination of Lincoln after the war's end by the Templar agent John Wilkes Booth, who in turn was tracked down and killed by Assassins.
A select few of the Subjects chosen by Warren Vidic for his Animus Project, such as Clay Kaczmarek and Desmond Miles, had ancestors who participated in the war. Additionally, Abstergo Entertainment supervisor Melanie Lemay also had a great-grandfather who was known to have come into contact with Lincoln a number of times.[1]
