Kapaneus was a poet and an actor who worked alongside Phanos the Younger in Alexandria, Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.
Biography
In 48 BCE, Phanos came up with a play which critiqued the reign of Ptolemy XIII, attracting the attention of Gennadios' phylakitai. As a result, Phanos' play was confiscated and three of his poet-actors, including Kapaneus, were jailed in the Akra Garrison. However, Kapaneus and one other managed to escape, hiding in one of the homes near the garrison. During their escape, Kapaneus attracted the attention of the guards, causing him to flee and leaving his fellow poet behind.[1]
After the Medjay Bayek of Siwa was enlisted by Phanos to recover the play and rescue the poet-actors, one of the other actors assured him that Kapaneus would eventually find his way back to the theater.[1]
