Amber

Amber is fossilized tree resin of golden hue. Though not a mineral, it is considered a gemstone and has been used to make a variety of decorative objects since antiquity.

History

According to legend in Ireland, amber came from the tree Eó Mugna, one of five trees sacred to Celtic mythology which bestowed mystical properties to the gem. [citation needed]

During the late 9th century, the Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan visited Ireland and collected amber shards from the Eó Mugna for the druidic priestess Deirdre Na Linni, once to aid in the creation of a cure for a poison which had struck High King Flann Sinna's army,[1], and again as proof of having killed the members of the Children of Danu, a pagan cult that was run by fanatical druids.[2]

During the Reconquista, the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins used amber in order to create various weapons, accessories, and pieces of armor.[3]
