Jonathan Davenport was a Boston-based Master Carpenter-Joiner who, around 1666, took a young Thom Kavanagh as his apprentice.
Jonathan quickly realized the natural skill Thom possessed, and when the time came for Thom to leave on his own journey five years later, Jonathan willingly provided a good reference for him, enabling him to find work with Peter Beckford.
Trivia
- Jonathan's relation to either Achilles, or Matthew Davenport - if any exists - is unknown.
- On occasion, pirate hunters in the West Indies would sail brigs named the Davenport; however, as before, there is no clear link between the ship's name and Jonathan's.
