A portrait of John Singleton Copley by Gilbert Stuart

John Singleton Copley (1738 – 9 September 1815) was an American painter. He is famous for his portrait paintings of prominent figures of New England, such as Thomas Gage, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere.[1]

During the American Revolutionary War, a copy of Gilbert Stuart's portrait of Copley hung in the manor of the Davenport Homestead.
