John Edgar Hoover (1 January 1895 – 2 May 1972) was the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States. Hoover was appointed Director of the Bureau of Investigation in 1924, and took an important role in the founding of the FBI in 1935 and remained the FBI's director unti his death in 1972.
