Ine (c. 670 – c. 727) was King of Wessex from 689 until his abdication in 726, whereupon he traveled to Rome.[1]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Ine is known for laying down Anglo-Saxon law, a general code of conduct issued around 694 CE for his citizens. Within the laws, Ine defined what a thegn was and noted the punishment for said thegns neglecting their military duty.[2]
