The Hunter's Hunt was an establishment in Ravensthorpe that served as the residence for Petra and her brother Wallace. They provided taxidermy services and facilitated fulfilling orders for specific hunting goods.
History
The Hunter's Hut was built in 873 by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan using resource gathered from raiding monasteries. It was one of the first structures in the settlement completed on advice from Randvi, the community's de facto leader.[1]
Legendary Animals
Wallace kept notes on certain legendary animals that he had heard of. During her travels across Norway and England, Eivor encountered and killed them, bringing their heads back to Wallace to turn in to trophies to decorate Ravensthorpe's longhouse. On top of taxidermizing the animals, Wallace also gave Eivor various rewards for her efforts.[2]
| Image | Legendary Animal | Wallace's Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Elk of Bloody Peaks | One peakland hunter spoke of seeing this wild elk, with three still-living men impaled on each one of its horns, blood dripping from them, like simple ornaments of death. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Black Shuck | O, such howls! Say the Anglians in horror. It haunts the skies. Guthrum shat himself upon hearing the howl of the Black Shuck and left for Wincestre, cock between his legs. He nibbles you long so you die slowly hearing him chew. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| The Corpse Feeders | Hunters of Oxenefordscire claim an entire vilage has fallen victum to these ravenous hounds, who made a witan of flesh, bone, and the innocent. A hefty, pesky sciremoot awaits with these fangs. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Beast of the Hills | Briton hunters warned me, "No kingdom shall take the hills owned by the Beast." They showed me skulls reduced to powder and tracks the size of Roman baths. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Gemad-Wulf | When the Bishopric moved, one lonely wolf stayed. The diocese dare not fight it, for locals claim it haunts the lands on behalf of Simon the Zealot, who was crucified here. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Aelfred's Battle-Sow | Aelfred is so desperate they say he hath realized that cattle make for better warriors than Saxons. Training calves will only do him harm, as it adds to his folly. However, the calves themselves have supped on blood instead of milk, and appear as though they seek the bosom of Hell in order to suck it into a frenzy. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| The Blood Swine | Those who know the fine odor of pork will know the grunt of a snout only sated by the blood of humans. This beast has killed seven bishops, all attacked during their sermons. Raiders dare not go near. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Bear of The Blue Waters | A hundred men hath climbed through the hellish froth of Thor's Breath to meet this king, only to be stone-water at the bottom of this sacred lake in the Valley of the Forsaken. This bear was made with ice itself, they say, and born from Thor and Freyja's affair. Beware, for its fangs thrist for the eyes of the idiotic. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. | |
| Wildcats of the Weald | Legends have come to me concerning lions of Wessex that have taken hundreds into their fangs like flies to shit. Children on dainty jaunts, mothers, babies, and the like. Succulent prey. Now proudly displayed in the Longhouse. |
Hunting Deliveries
Wallace also took orders from the various residents of Ravensthorpe. Eivor helped fulfill these orders and again was rewarded for her efforts.[2]
