The House of Medici was the strongest family in Florence during the late 15th century. Lorenzo de' Medici il Magnifico was the house's patron, and a close ally to the Auditore family, as well as their Assassin connections. They are subject to Templar attack due to their de facto control of Florence.

A Medici Guard

At a High Mass, Lorenzo's brother Giuliano de' Medici was killed in the Pazzi Conspiracy. Meaning the only known heir to the Medici House was Giuliano's nephew and son, technically a legitimate child through a loophole in Florentine law), Giulio de' Medici.

The Medici Cape was given to Ezio Auditore da Firenze by Lorenzo as a symbol of faith and trust soon after he saved Lorenzo's life during the assassination attempt by the Pazzi.

Lorenzo died in 1492 and control of the house is passed to his weaker son Piero. Piero let Florence pass into Girolamo Savonarola's hands by 1494. After Savonarola's assassination in 1498, it took fourteen years for the Medici to regain control of Florence.

Trivia

• The Medici are the only rulers in Assassin's Creed II who controlled two regions, Florence and San Gimignano.
• Aside from Pazzi guards and civilians, Medici Guards are the weakest enemies in Assassin's Creed II.
