Brother Hortbert was a monk at Saint Hadrian's Priory in Cent, England in the late 9th century.
There, while they fostered a man called Basim, Hortbert and the newcomer discussed faith, evil, and free will, with Basim managing to get Hortbert to question the scriptures before Brother Cedric took offense to the blasphemy and intervened.[1]
