Hide and Seek was a virtual representation of one of Ratonhnhaké:ton's genetic memories, relived by Desmond Miles in 2012 through the Animus.

Description

Haytham Kenway's and Kaniehti:io's son Ratonhnhaké:ton played Hide and Seek with his friends in Kanatahséton, incuding Kanen'tó:kon. He was then attacked by Charles Lee, Benjamin Church, Thomas Hickey, and William Johnson.

Dialogue

  • Kaniehti:io: Time passed. The child grew inside me. And then he entered the world. He had his father's features, but enough of me that he did not appear a stranger. In the end it mattered little. My people loved him as their own. I miss Haytham sometimes. He may have even loved me, in his own way. But his eyes... His eyes were ever fixed on the future - one in which he and his Templar brethren controlled all. My greatest fear is that one day I shall look into the face of my son and see the same dark hunger there.

Kaniehti:tio finds her son Ratohnhaké:ton reading in Haytham's journal, which he drops and kicks under his mat.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Good morning, mother.
  • Kaniehti:io: Hmmm... And what are you up to?
  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Nothing. I, uh... I was only...

Kanen'tó:kon ran into the longhouse during the conversation.

  • Kanen'tó:kon: Ratonhnhaké:ton, come play with us! The others have gone hunting and we're bored.

Ratonhnhaké:ton shuffled past his mother hesitantly before walking away.

  • Kaniehti:io: Go on. But do not venture past the valley.

Ratonhnhaké:ton then followed the other children into the forest. The children made it to a large rock and grouped there.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: What will we play?
  • Kanen'tó:kon: Hide and seek? Draw.

Kanen'tó:kon picked up five sticks and made each of his friends draw one of the five. Ratonhnhaké:ton drew the shortest stick of the five.

  • Kanen'tó:kon: You're it!

The other children laughed and ran off to hide while Ratonhnhaké:ton unhappily counted.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: One, two, three four...

A small amount of time passed.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: ... One hundred!

Ratonhnhaké:ton analyzed clues left behind by his friends to find them in the forest. After finding them all, the children drew straws again. This time Kanen'tó:kon drew the shortest stick, and he went to count while the rest of the children hid. Once Ratonhnhaké:ton found a hiding spot, he heard rustling around him, and a large man grabbed Ratonhnaké:ton and threw him to the ground.

Church proceeded to point a musket at Ratonhnhaké:ton. Ratonhnhaké:ton tried to run away from the men but was tripped by Charles Lee. After handing his musket to Thomas Hickey, Charles stepped towards Ratonhnhaké:ton menacingly. Afer rolling Ratonhnhaké:ton over, he spoke.

  • Charles Lee: You look...familiar. Where have I seen you before?

Ratonhnhaké:ton spit in Lee's face.

  • Charles Lee: That wasn't very nice.

Lee grabbed Ratonhnhaké:ton's arm, and slammed him into a tree.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Let me go!
  • Benjamin Church: Listen to that, he knows English.
  • Thomas Hickey: Smart for a savage.
  • Charles Lee: Spirited, too.

Ratonhnhaké:ton struggled but it was no use against Lee's strength. Lee began to choke Ratonhahaké:ton.

  • Charles Lee: We have...questions for your elders. Only tell us where your village is, boy, and you can go.
  • William Johnson: Best do as he asks, child.
  • Charles Lee: I could snap your neck, you know. A little more pressure and POP! The sad little flame of your life extinguished. You are a nothing. A speck of dust. You and all your ilk. Living in the dirt like animals, oblivious to the true ways of the world. The wiser among you recognize the shape of the future. They throw themselves at our feet and beg mercy. But not you, it seems. No... You cling desperately to your ways. Too ignorant to know your folly. But I am not unkind.

Lee dropped Ratonhnhaké:ton to the ground.

  • Charles Lee: And so I spare you, that you may carry word to your people. Let them know the sooner we are given what we seek, the sooner you can return to your pathetic, empty lives. A fair trade, is it not?

Ratonhnhaké:ton, obviously struggling to regain his breath, sat up.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: What...is your...name?

Lee chuckled.

  • Charles Lee: Charles Lee. Why do you ask?
  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: So I can...find you.
  • Charles Lee: I look forward to it.

Lee motioned the the group to leave, and William Johnson knocked Ratonhnhaké:ton with the butt of his musket. When Ratonhnhaké:ton awoke, he made his way slowly to the village. When he saw his village in flames, he began to run.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Mother! Where is my mother?

He ran throughout the vilage, unable to find Kaniehti:io. He finally heard her screams from their home. After running around the village and maneuvering around falled roofs and planks. He found his mother under a pile of fallen wood.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Mother, I am here. I am here. It is going to be fine.
  • Kaniehti:io: No, my son. You must leave. Now.
  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Not without you.
  • 'Kaniehti:io: It's too late for that. You must be strong, Ratonhnhaké:ton. You must be brave.
  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: Stop it. Stop it!
  • Kaniehti:io: You will think yourself alone, but know that I will be at your side. Always and forever.

A man from the village ran up and grabbed Ratonhnhaké:ton, and began to carry him away.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: NO! STOP! LET ME GO! LET ME SAVE HER!

The entire longhouse began to cave in.

  • Kaniehti:io: I love you.

And the building was engulfed by flames.

  • Ratonhnhaké:ton: MOTHER!

Outcome

The village in Kanatahséton was burned down, and Kaniehti:io died, leaving Ratonhnhaké:ton an orphan of the village.
