Herod I of Judea (c. 74 or 73 BCE – c. 4 BCE or 1 BCE), also known as Herod the Great, was the Roman client king of Judea from 37 BCE until his death.

His rule being considered tyrannical, Herod's reign was opposed by the fledgeling Hidden Ones.
