Heraion of Argos

The Heraion of Argos was a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Hera located within Hera's Watch, east of Argos in Argolis, Greece.

History

Founded in the 9th century BCE on a hillside, the sanctuary housed one of the oldest temples dedicated to the goddess. In 423 BCE it was burned down by a priestess of Hera living in the sanctuary, Chrysis.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the sanctuary was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
