The Hall of the Forty-Nine Skulls was a shrine and tomb situated near The Bloody Oracle in Argos, Greece. It was dedicated to the 49 slain sons of Aigyptos, a legendary king of ancient Egypt.
According to the stories, Danaos' 50 daughters were supposed to marry his brother's 50 sons. As a wedding present from their father, each of Danaos' daughters received a dagger, and a command to kill their husband. All but Hypermnestra obeyed.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the shrine was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
